Munich surfer!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

For three nights in a row here in Munich, I\u2019ve gone to dinner with colleagues.\u00a0 Now, don\u2019t get me wrong, I enjoy them and had a great time.\u00a0 But I can\u2019t get used to the concept that, if I agree to to dinner, I have to realize that there\u2019s nothing else I\u2019ll get to do that night except crawl back to my hotel and go to bed.<\/p>\n

Oh, well, it\u2019s not as if I really did<\/em> have anything important to do back in the hotel room.\u00a0 But it still takes some getting used to.\"roof_1\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I think the main reason I find it exhausting is that, if I\u2019m still with clients, no matter how congenial things get \u2013 and they\u2019ve gotten pretty damn congenial on this trip \u2013 I\u2019m still on guard.\u00a0 I\u2019m still a little bit \u201cat work.\u201d\u00a0 Meaning I\u2019m not really relaxed.\u00a0 That\u2019s why I feel a little bit \u201cbehind\u201d when I get to my hotel at midnight and I haven\u2019t really had a chance to unwind from the day.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, our four hour dinner last night was wonderful.\u00a0 I had the best schnitzel I\u2019ve had to date.\u00a0 Ordering schnitzel was a bit of a cop-out, since we were in a noted Bavarian restaurant, and schitzel is of course Austrian, but I\u2019m still glad I ordered it.\u00a0 Yum.<\/p>\n

\"young_surfer\"<\/a>At lunch we checked out the surfers.\u00a0 Surfers in Munich?\u00a0 You betcha.\u00a0 There\u2019s a small canal called the Eisbach which flows through the central part of the city and then through the massive Englischer Garten.\u00a0 Right where it enters the park, there\u2019s a natural wave that local surfers have augmented with blocks (or maybe a tree trunk) a bit below the surface.\u00a0 And on this wave, which is all of 15 meters wide, they take turns surfing!\u00a0 It\u2019s really something to see.<\/p>\n
