Obama is Not a Muslim (No Matter How Badly You Want Him to Be)<\/p>\n

All of my grandparents were Christian.<\/p>\n

Both of my parents were raised Christian.<\/p>\n

I spent two years in Episcopal schools!\u00a0 I spent twenty years attending Southern Baptist churches.\u00a0 My old copy of The New American Standard Bible<\/em><\/strong> is as marked up and highlighted as a college textbook.<\/p>\n

The summer after my senior year in high school, I won Second Place in the State of Texas in the Baptist Youth Speakers Tournament.\u00a0 Also that summer, I went on a mission trip to California, where I proselytized the Good News to innocent children and families in Yosemite Park.<\/p>\n

There are hundreds of witnesses who can attest to my participation in all these Christian activities.\u00a0 People who could cheerfully stand in front of a news camera and attest to the fact that, at least in 1976, I was a staunch devotee of Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n

And yet, despite this avalanche of damning evidence to the contrary, I solemnly aver that I am not a Christian<\/em>.\u00a0 Incredible?\u00a0 Unlikely?\u00a0 Impossible to believe?<\/p>\n

But true.\u00a0 I have not been a Christian since 1979.<\/p>\n

None of my friends seem to have a problem understanding this fact.\u00a0 My friends who are still Christian are sometimes plenty irritated with me, I\u2019m so very much NOT a Christian these days.\u00a0 My friends understand that my religion is what I say it is, right now.<\/em><\/p>\n

And yet, millions of Right-Wing pinheads in this country won\u2019t afford the same courtesy to the President of the United States.<\/p>\n

Obama\u2019s middle name is Hussein.\u00a0 [gasp!]\u00a0 His grandfather was an African Muslim [sharp intake of breath!]\u00a0 Even worse, Obama has consistently<\/em> spoken with inclusion and good will to Muslim world.\u00a0 [scandalous!!]<\/p>\n

Obama\u2019s father, though raised a Muslim, was, like me, a confirmed atheist before he was out of college.<\/p>\n

Did Obama live in Muslim countries when he was young?\u00a0 Uh, yeah, he did.\u00a0 So did my friends David Givens and Amy Fox.\u00a0 And I\u2019m pretty sure neither one of them are Muslim.<\/p>\n

Obama has written extensively about his life.\u00a0 NOWHERE in these writings does he claim to be anything other than a Christian.<\/p>\n

So what do you believe, Right-Wingers?\u00a0 That from before he was a teenager, Obama had a secret plan to lead America into the evils of Sharia Law by initiating a lifelong deception about his religion?<\/p>\n

He went to a Christian Church in Chicago for twenty years.\u00a0 Was that all a ruse?<\/p>\n

Are you people in third grade?<\/p>\n

Do you know anything<\/em> about Islam at all?\u00a0 If you did, you\u2019d understand that it\u2019s not really possible to be a Secret Muslim.<\/p>\n

Unlike Christianity, which does not require any outward change in your behavior at all (lots of suggestions, but no requirements), when you become a Muslim you actually have to do <\/em>things.\u00a0 Two very visible examples of this are having to eat halal<\/em> (the Muslim equivalent of kosher) and the ritual of the Salah<\/em>.<\/p>\n

If Obama was a Secret Muslim, the food service people in the White House would know it, since every meal they would have prepared for the President for the last four years would have had to be halal<\/em>.\u00a0 This is not something that could be done without attracting a lot<\/em> of attention.<\/p>\n

The Salah<\/em> is the required<\/em> ritual of prayer every<\/em> Muslim must fulfill at five absolutely specific times per day<\/em>.\u00a0 I\u2019m talking about the prayer mat, the facing Mecca thing, etc.<\/p>\n

There is absolutely no way any President could perform this ritual for four years, five times a day, and word of it not get out.\u00a0 And guess what?\u00a0 If Obama doesn\u2019t<\/em> observe the Salah, he\u2019s not a Muslim<\/em>.\u00a0 Yeah, that\u2019s how that works.<\/p>\n

And one more thing.\u00a0 What if it were true<\/em>?\u00a0 What if the President was<\/em> a Muslim?\u00a0 You realize that to object to that is un-American and unconstitutional, right?\u00a0 Yeah, it\u2019s in the Constitution that no religious test ever be required for political office in the United States.\u00a0 That Religious Freedom thing you keep wailing about?\u00a0 It cuts all ways.\u00a0 It applies to Muslims, too.\u00a0 You can be a real American and be a Catholic, a Baptist, a Buddhist, a Wiccan, a Hindu, a Muslim, or even someone who has no religion at all, like me.\u00a0 And if you disagree with the preceding sentence, you are a religious bigot who doesn\u2019t respect the Constitution<\/em>.<\/p>\n

I understand that many of you despise our President.\u00a0 I get it.\u00a0 I felt the same way about Bush II.\u00a0 But here\u2019s the key difference in how Democrats expressed their political dissatisfaction compared to a huge percentage of self-identifying Republicans today:<\/p>\n

We didn\u2019t make stupid shit up about the President <\/em>\u00a0We talked about the REAL things about George Bush that we didn\u2019t like.<\/p>\n

The Right-Wing Obama Fantasists have created an utterly fictional Obama.\u00a0 It\u2019s childish, un-American, and pathetic.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll listen to you rail against Obamacare all day.\u00a0 I\u2019ll hear your disagreement with the rollback of Don\u2019t Ask, Don\u2019t Tell.\u00a0 You can talk to me about any policy the Obama Administration has enacted that you disagree with.\u00a0 We\u2019re all Americans, let\u2019s argue about politics!<\/p>\n

But I am done<\/em> listening to you spread irresponsible and childish lies about the lawfully elected President of the United States.<\/p>\n

Have the stones to criticize our Actual <\/em>president.\u00a0 Not some made up, racist fantasy.<\/p>\n

Grow the fuck up.<\/p>\n
