My hotel, the Courtyard Upper East Side, is nice, but a bit remote.\u00a0 The room is very comfortable, but like most hotel rooms in this town, a bit on the wee side.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Central Park in the Spring is definitely a big check in the PLUS column for America.\u00a0 I had a lovely walk across the Upper East Side, the Park, and then the Upper West Side on the way to Gerard\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Gerard lives in this great building on West End Avenue.\u00a0 His 13-floor living room windows face the Hudson River.\u00a0 Between him and the river is a school.\u00a0 \u201cThis is great, \u201d I would always tell him.\u00a0 \u201cThat school isn\u2019t going anywhere, so your view will be here forever!\u201d<\/p>\n

So naturally a few years ago the damn school added several stories, just enough to sit right smack in front of Gerard\u2019s beautiful view.\u00a0 Oh, the humanity.<\/p>\n

Gerard's snow has played in various incarnations around the world since 1981!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Gerard has been my friend since 1988 or so, and it\u2019s always great to see him.\u00a0 Like my late friend Ken, we can talk about movies until we collapse.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo what else besides The Book of Mormon<\/em><\/strong> should I try to see while I\u2019m here?\u201d\u00a0 I knew Gerard would have his finger on the pulse of the New York theater scene.\u00a0 Without hesitation he said, \u201cWar Horse.\u201d\u00a0 Funny, I had just seen an article on TED about this show that had these amazing horse puppets.\u00a0 My time in New York was limited, and the show had a lot of buzz on it, so we actually scooted down to Lincoln Center and I nabbed the last remaining good seat for the evening performance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The show was dazzling.\u00a0 The play basically puts you through World War I, with trench warfare, barbed wire, tanks, and full-size horses.\u00a0 It was one of the coolest things I\u2019ve ever seen.<\/p>\n
