Things to Try if You are Bored<\/h4>\n
1.\u00a0 Pick up a book.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0Books.\u00a0 You remember them?\u00a0 They\u2019re everywhere, thanks to Mr. Gutenberg.\u00a0 And Amazon.\u00a0 I don\u2019t even care what kind of book you read.\u00a0 I\u2019m not a snob.\u00a0 Read Danielle Steele, for all I care.\u00a0 That chick must be able to tell a good story, considering all the units she\u2019s moved.\u00a0 Read Stephen King.\u00a0 Read trash.\u00a0 I don\u2019t care.\u00a0 I\u2019ll bet you don\u2019t even have a library card.\u00a0 Why don\u2019t you?\u00a0 Libraries are great.\u00a0 They let you borrow books for free, it\u2019s crazy.\u00a0 Or for that matter, it doesn\u2019t even have to be a book.\u00a0 Read a magazine.\u00a0 Check out all those fabled \u201cgood articles\u201d in Playboy<\/em><\/strong>. Or Cosmo<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Or National Geographic<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Or, hell, Maxim<\/em><\/strong> (which, of course, could have the added benefit of learning how to please her in bed three ways at the same time!\u203c).\u00a0 I don\u2019t care if you\u2019re reading the back of a cereal box.\u00a0 Just read something.\u00a0 And if you can\u2019t find anything <\/em>you like to read, you\u2019ve got bigger problems than boredom, pal.<\/p>\n 2.\u00a0 Do a chore.\u00a0<\/p>\n
One of the main reasons you don\u2019t want to clean your apartment, or work on your taxes, or wash your dog, is that there\u2019s something else you\u2019d rather do.\u00a0 If you\u2019re bored, then, by definition, there\u2019s nothing particular that you feel like doing.\u00a0 Perfect time to clean the underside of your platform bed!\u00a0 [PS I learned this one from my wise grandmother, whose now an even wiser 98 years old.]<\/p>\n
3.\u00a0 Get out of your comfort zone.<\/p>\n
Maybe you need to try something you don\u2019t usually do.\u00a0 Take a samba class.\u00a0 Watch a sport you don\u2019t think you like.\u00a0 Sleep with someone who\u2019s a different age\/race\/sex\/religion than you usually hook up with.\u00a0 Try a food you don\u2019t think you like.\u00a0 Take a drive to a part of town you never go to.<\/p>\n
4.\u00a0 Volunteer.<\/p>\n
If you\u2019re not doing anything, you might has well stuff envelopes, right?<\/p>\n
5.\u00a0 Play a video game.<\/p>\n
Seriously.\u00a0 If you have never tried them, you don\u2019t know what you\u2019re missing.\u00a0 Find a genre of game you like, and boredom will be a thing of the past.<\/p>\n
Finally, if you feel seriously bored frequently, it could be a sign that you suffer from clinical depression, in which case you need to seek help.<\/p>\n
But if you\u2019re healthy, and reasonably mobile, and aren\u2019t in solitary confinement:\u00a0 I don\u2019t want to hear about how bored you are.<\/p>\n
