Latter Day Saints on Broadway!\u00a0 With the F Word!<\/h3>\n

My friend David and I saw The Book of Mormon<\/em><\/strong> last night.\u00a0 It was every bit as good as I hoped it would be.\u00a0 Better, actually.\u00a0 It\u2019s a remarkable instance of the creators of a show having their cake and eating it, too . . . in a big way.\u00a0 Meaning, the show has elements that are utterly profane and offensive, and yet overall it\u2019s sweet and hopeful.\u00a0 It\u2019s not mean spirited at all, which is surprising, considering the ridiculous religion it\u2019s portraying.<\/p>\n

The performances are fantastic.\u00a0 The two leads should share the Tony award . . . in fact, I really hope that\u2019s what happens.<\/p>\n

I highly recommend this show to anyone whose planning a trip to New York any time soon.<\/p>\n

For a brief moment, my delirious enjoyment of the show was derailed.\u00a0 In the second act, there\u2019s a wonderful number called \u201cSpooky Mormon Hell Dream, \u201d depicting the horrors that commonly bedevil (to coin a phrase) worried young Mormons everywhere.\u00a0 Somehow the theme of recurring anxiety triggered my own:\u00a0 Money.<\/p>\n

Yeah, even though I\u2019m in the midst of a wonderfully beefy project, I have no work scheduled when it\u2019s over yet, and I still haven\u2019t gotten over the blind terror of post September 2008 contractor life.\u00a0 It\u2019s not been easy, and I have to continue to work hard to find new opportunities.<\/p>\n
