Day of Relief<\/h3>\n

Today, my final day in New York, was a day of nothing but good news!<\/p>\n

First, and by far the most important, my friend Rob came through his surgery with flying colors.\u00a0 What he had was called a vestibular schwannoma, also known as an acoustic or aural neuroma.\u00a0 This means a benign tumor attached to the bundle of nerves that control hearing, balance, and facial muscles on one side of the head.\u00a0 The surgery is very tricky, and I\u2019m thrilled that it went well, and I\u2019m thrilled that it\u2019s OVER.<\/p>\n

Rob is in a lot of pain and having some acute and persistent nausea, both of which suck.\u00a0 He\u2019ll hopefully improve soon.\u00a0 His brother Charles is in and out of the ICU unit to visit him today.\u00a0 I wish I was there.<\/p>\n

Next, my passport and Russia visa is IN MY HAND.\u00a0 At last, not two hours before I left for the airport.\u00a0 Whew, that was a close one.\u00a0 It would have been extremely obnoxious if it had not arrived today.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s my final day in New York.\u00a0 I cannot believe I\u2019ve been to New York three times in the last ten months.\u00a0 Amazing.\u00a0 I always have a great time here, and this time was no exception, though I must say my commute was bit trying and the weather wasn\u2019t very cooperative.\u00a0 It was great to spend time with friends, though.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the early days of my twenties, when I had only lived in New York a couple of years, I was proud to be a New Yorker, and assumed I\u2019d always live there.\u00a0 Nowadays when I visit, no matter how much fun I\u2019m having I never, ever think:\u00a0 I should be living here again.\u00a0 I do love Los Angeles.\u00a0 I have now lived there almost twice as long as I lived in New York.\u00a0 I am a proud Angelino.<\/p>\n

The other good news is that I scored an exit seat on the longer of the two flights today.\u00a0 This will make a huge difference, comfort-wise.<\/p>\n

So.\u00a0 I did my final visits in the New York office, then grabbed a cab and headed for JFK airport!<\/p>\n
