A tradition since 1983, the movie-renter’s ultimate guide, yes, folks, it’s here!

Remember, I have nothing against anyone who disagrees with me about even the smallest item in my very correct movie awards.  I recognize the right of any of my friends to have terrible taste.

  1. What about the Ralph Nader documentary – “An Unreasonable Man”. I told you to see that a long time ago. Did you?

  2. Oops! I think I posted on the wrong thread.

Will there be any trash-talk or four letter expletives in your blog at any time in the future.

I find them VERY therapeutic in blogs. Movie awards.

    And traffic.

  3. This is a comment regarding the lauding of the movie, “Flight 93.”

As a person who is actively attempting to awaken as many people I can regarding the truth of the events of 9/11, I find any elevation of the movie, “Flight 93” in a positive way to be both offensive and ignorant of the facts. To praise such a piece of destructive propaganda should be done with an asterisk – if at all.

In these 2006 movie awards, Ray ranks Flight 93 as the 4th-best movie of 2006. I see that he likes the Direction, the Score and the Casting – and with those technical aspects of movie-making, I have no problem. But would you think a propaganda film that demonizes Jews as being responsible for the Holocaust to be a “great movie” if it had a great score and direction? Of course not! The message matters.

The deceptive, propagandistic message of a movie like this overrides (in spades) whatever good technical aspects such a movie may incorporate. Indeed, having such good technical aspects only increases the insidious propaganda value inasmuch as it contributes to the brainwashing of the unwitting people who view it.

Why is it propaganda? Because the story of the courageous passengers who rose up and overtook the Arab hijackers on Flight 93 is pure fiction. It is the same type of complete fiction that was created by the people who fed us the Jessica Lynch myth and the Pat Tillman fairy-tale. It is part and parcel of the gigantic crime that was committed against the American people which we know as ‘9/11.’ Flight 93 was blown out of the air by a US fighter pilot and scattered across an 8-mile debris field in the Pennsylvania countryside.

The fact that 9/11 was an “inside job,” staged as a pretext for the launching of the bogus “war on terror,” can be easily discovered by anyone who is motivated to study the evidence of 9/11 with a modicum of objectivity. I encourage everyone reading this to do yourself a favor by studying the evidence and start climbing out of the prison of propaganda that we’ve been barraged with ever since that day.

Wake up, people – now they’re doing it again with Iran.

Thanks, Ray! This new blog is GREAT!

  4. Diana,

    1) Alas, the movie never played in L.A. or anywhere else where I was, and more importantly
    2) I would not see any movie about Ralph Nader as I hold him personally responsible for the 2000 election of George Bush. It was ego which kept him in the race. All the blood of the Iraqis and Americans who have died in Bush’s stupid war is on Ralph Nader’s hands.

  5. Ray, honey, sweetie, if you’re going to pick a best actor/actress/toothpaste please, pleeeze give us a few comments why… 🙂

And if you can explain why I never heard of most these movies (“Babel”?) in Denver, I’d appreciate it.

  6. Shannon,

Uh, no offense but how did you miss the playing of the yet-another-vehicle-to-make-Brad-Pitt-seem-like-a-real-actor movie? “Babel” was the “big deal” “Crash” knock-off, as Ray so rightly offered, of the year. It was all over the news, cable, NPR, etc. I heard about it – and sample dialog – ad nauseum for months. Same format as “Crash” and somewhat as “Syriana”, correct me if I am wrong on that comparison.

I have to say you didnt miss much. I wouldn’t have minded if it were bad funny but it was just bad boring. “Crash” was a bit contrived but still had a few moments that were amazing – who knew Sandra had it in her!

Hey, Ray, I agree about “Cars”. But kids love it. I wanted to know what you thought about the “Ice Age” movies. We LOVE the opening of both with the little character Scrat. These movies did not seem to get quite as much hype but we thought they were really wonderful.

  7. Just when I think I’ve seen too many movies last year, Ray puts me to shame.

Unlikely But Welcome Best Superhero Movie Ever?

Superman’s divinity? He spent the entire movie mooning over his lost love – Lois. Should have been titled ‘Superman’s Boner.’ And the big revelation – gee, didn’t see that coming from a mile away, if you’re six years old that is. Boring tripe.

The Departed – agree with you here & if anyone but Scorsce had directed it would not be up for best picture.

Borat – it is a crying, f’ing shame and embarrasment that this movie is not up for best pic and that Cohen is not up for best actor. I defy you to name anyone in any movie this year who so became part of his character. If, for example, Forrest Whittaker were to walk down any US street doing his Idi Amin, do you think people would say ‘There goes Idi Amin’ or would they say, ‘There goes Forrest Whittaker impersonating Idi Amin.’ But if Cohen walks down the street doing Borat – and this has already happened numerous times – he is not recognized as an actor, but as Borat. Not sure if what I’m saying makes sense but it makes sense to me and that is all that matters in my strange little world.

Children of Men – sure it was good, but all in all it is just another futuristic 1984 ‘what-if’ flick.

Meryl Strep in Devil Wears Prada – I have never understood the big deal here. First of all, the movie nothing more than an adult version of The Princess Diaries which is ironic as Hathaway said she wanted to get away from that image. I don’t need to explain this, think about it you’ll make the comparisons yourself. Was Strep good in this movie – sure she was, but it’s easy to play ‘bad’ (as Strep herself as said) and her characater was nothing more than a cartoon cariciture. She is only nominated because the pickiings for best actress are so slim every year.

I could go on some more, but I’m sure by now Ray is ready to blast me so I’ll sit back and wait for the fallout.

  8. I just watched “Superman Returns” on DVD and was amazed at what a good movie it is! I would really give huge cudos to the Director, Bryan Singer.

Randy – it’s a Superman movie for God’s sake. You seem to be seeing it thru cynicism-colored glasses. Love is all there is.
